About The Position

SUMMARY: This position requires the technologist to be creative and responsible for providing excellence in clinical care as well as providing quality radiographs for the provider to make a diagnosis. The technologist must work efficiently and professionally, as he/she is a representative of Stony Brook Medicine and the SBM Immediate Care, providing services to both the SBM Community and the local community at large. The incumbent will need to work independently the majority of the time, with limited to no supervision. He/she will report to an immediate supervisor (Assistant Director) in the section.

Requirements

  • The candidate must have a high school diploma and be a graduate of an accredited Radiology program.
  • Licensed by the state of New York in Diagnostic Radiology; or hold an active NY State temporary license with a scheduled ARRT exam date. You must successfully complete the ARRT examination and obtain a full New York State radiologic technologist license as soon as possible within the 180-day period.
  • ARRT Registration.
  • Basic Life Certification (BLS) from the American Heart Association or able to obtain within 3 months of employment.
  • Must have excellent communications skills.

Nice To Haves

  • One year experience in the field of radiology is preferred, however not required.

Responsibilities

  • Acquiring X-ray studies in a fast-paced environment where efficiency is crucial
  • Proficiency with all internal X-ray and interfacing software in order to properly document and present X-ray studies for review by the provider, aftercare, Stony Brook Medicine primary and specialty care providers, and reading radiologists
  • Facilitating any office functions that impact efficient patient care, including, but not limited to, assisting medical and clerical staff with coordinating follow-up studies or medical care, moving patients, interfacing with radiologists to expedite reads, reaching out to patients so that the provider may discuss results
  • Assisting the provider, at times, with medical procedures, which may include but are not limited to: EKG, vital signs, rooming patients, procedure set ups, etc. Training will be provided for any office functions outside the scope of previous X-Ray training
  • Communicating with patients, pharmacies, and physicians over the phone under physician guidance
  • Assisting the licensed provider, at times, and under the direct supervision of the provider, with in-office, point of care tests (training will be provided)
  • Providing an extra set of hands to assist the licensed provider while the provider performs in-office procedures (laceration repairs, abscess care, splinting, etc)
  • Keeping an accurate and up-to-date QA log book including pregnancy form and daily check off list
  • Acting as a liaison between the office and the vendors / companies that maintain equipment in good working order
  • Treating patients in a caring and respectful manner.
  • Assisting Medical Assistants with stocking rooms as needed
  • Assisting with onboarding of new staff
  • Cooperates with all personnel in the proper conduct of the department.
  • Maintains ethical relationships.
  • Adheres to hospital and departmental rules and regulations.
  • May be required to assist in the development of technical factors and film selection.
  • May assist in the use of a variety of equipment or procedures, not routinely taught.
  • Participate in in-service programs.
  • Participate in annual recertification training, compliance training, HIPPA training.
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned by management.
