About The Position

Are you a DVM looking for a new opportunity and challenge? IDEXX is recruiting for a Diagnostic Support Veterinarian (DSV) to join our Medical Consulting Team. The general practitioner veterinarian in this position provides phone consultations and diagnostic support to clients regarding Reference Laboratory and In-House Diagnostic (IHD) results, with emphasis around understanding the relationship between various test methodologies offered by IDEXX. A high level of importance is placed on quality, service, and timeliness. In this role: Technical & Consultative Responsibilities You will be responsible for knowing proper specimen handling techniques for laboratory samples and interferences in the sample that may affect the test results. You will be responsible for knowing tests offered by the Reference Laboratories, VetLab & Rapid Assay; specimen requirements for each of these tests; clinical utility of each test; and how to interpret results, especially IDEXX exclusive tests (i.e., SDMA, proBNP, Lyme Quant C6 & Spec cPL/fPL) You will be responsible for understanding technology behind IHD tests offered by IDEXX (i.e., SNAP tests & VetLab products) You will communicate with Reference Lab and IHD customers regarding questions, concerns or discrepancies associated with reference lab or IHD results. You will provide support as needed (i.e. by providing training or attending regular meetings) to other CAG (Companion Animal Group) customer support, sales, and technical support groups within IDEXX. You will participate in IDEXX educational or organizational meetings as they arise. Call Tracking You will be expected to enter all information regarding consultations into the Customer Relationship Management System software. Training Onboarding training will be completed virtually. Potential need to travel to Westbrook, ME for in person training events should they occur Virtual Work Environment Requirements: Dedicated quiet office space High speed internet service with minimum speeds of 30 Mb/s download and 5 Mb/s upload with hardwire access. Schedule: We are hiring full-time (5 days, 40 hours a week) Consultation service hours are Monday through Friday, 8am – 9pm EST, and Saturday 8:30 – 5 pm EST. A full-time DSV will work 5 days a week, 8-hour shifts within that time frame; scheduling flexibility is preferred. Saturday duties will be scheduled (typically 1 per month). You will receive a rotation day off during the week during a week where a Saturday shift is scheduled. What you will need to succeed: DVM or equivalent required. Typically, 5+ years’ experience in clinical practice. Previous experience & knowledge of IDEXX products and services preferred. Ability to gain in-depth understanding of the technology behind a variety of diagnostic testing – including technical specifications & medical application. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Excellent interpersonal skills, approachability and ability to work with people. A service-oriented attitude. Organizational skills - time management, multi-tasking and coordinating with others. High level of self-motivation – ability to work with minimal supervision. Computer skills, or ability and desire to learn required skills, are necessary. Familiarity with current topics and issues in clinical veterinary medicine. Physical Demands: Extensive sitting, phone and computer use. Hearing acuity sufficient to effectively communicate via telephone and in person. Weekend hours will be required.
