About The Position

Join Cleveland Clinic Neurological Institute, part of one of the world’s most respected healthcare organizations, as they expand with a new, one-million-square-foot, 15-floor, state-of-the-art facility on Cleveland Clinic Main Campus. This facility is designed to elevate care for complex neurological conditions, including spine injuries, epileptic seizures, movement disorders, multiple sclerosis, and stroke. Caregivers in this role will provide patient care in the new Neurological Institute and other areas across Cleveland Clinic Main Campus, such as Cardiac, Digestive Disease, and Medical-Surgical. Diagnostic Medical Sonographers utilize imaging devices like ultrasounds, sonograms, and echocardiograms, which emit sound waves to create two-dimensional or three-dimensional images. These devices, often used with a handheld probe, assist physicians in assessing and diagnosing various conditions, and can also guide interventional procedures like biopsies or fluid drainage. This position operates on a 2nd shift, Monday-Friday, from 3:00pm to 11:30pm. Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school in Diagnostic Medical Sonography and in good standing
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or the American Red Cross

Responsibilities

  • Perform ultrasound studies (i.e. obstetrical, GYN, abdominal, retro peritoneal, small parts, pediatric, and vascular).
  • Consult with referring physicians regarding patients' medical history and selection of appropriate procedures and equipment required for proper diagnosis.
  • Educate patients regarding procedures, equipment and exams to ensure understanding and cooperation.
  • Ensure patients' comfort and safety during and after the exam.
  • Assist with scheduling of patients and schedule all emergency patients for diagnostic ultrasound procedures.
  • Monitor all appointments scheduled for ultrasound examinations.
  • Perform preliminary research on patients when preparations are not provided and determine priority of patients based on the daily schedules.
  • Acquire, archive, transmit and print images via PACS.
  • Complete after hours transmission of images and appropriate paperwork.
  • Immediately report any malfunctions to help desk and PACS Administrator.
  • Process billing via RIS.
  • Ensure proper function of ultrasound equipment and notify clinical engineering of any equipment malfunctions.
  • Adequately supply exam rooms with linen and related medical supplies.
  • Assist with clinical instruction of ultrasound students and residents and in-service education of caregivers.
  • Assist with orienting new caregivers to the equipment, department procedures and scanning protocols.
  • Demonstrate ultrasound equipment for caregivers and visitors.
  • Potentially rotate through all diagnostic imaging modalities, sites and/or locations.
