About The Position

The Department of Radiology at Mass General Brigham (MGB) is seeking a highly motivated, full-time Diagnostic Medical Physicist to join the newly integrated Medical Physics Division, with a team of fifteen medical physicists. The successful candidate will support onsite clinical physics activities across the MGB enterprise for diagnostic X-ray imaging modalities and will report to the MGB Director of Diagnostic X-ray Physics. MGB is a world-class integrated healthcare system, comprising Massachusetts General Hospital, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and a network of affiliated community hospitals and ambulatory imaging sites. The Department of Radiology is nationally recognized and equipped with state-of-the-art imaging technology, offering a collaborative and innovative academic environment with strong opportunities for career development, professional growth, and research collaboration. Candidates with strong research experience are preferred. An academic appointment at Harvard Medical School at the rank of Instructor, Assistant Professor, or Associate Professor will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Requirements

  • PhD in Medical Physics or a closely related field.
  • Minimum of two years of clinical experience in diagnostic X-ray physics.
  • ABR certification or board eligibility in Diagnostic Medical Physics (or equivalent)

Responsibilities

  • Perform acceptance testing and annual physics evaluations for a wide range of X-ray imaging modalities, including CT, radiography, fluoroscopy, interventional radiology, mammography, and X-ray systems located in non-radiology clinical areas across the MGB network.
  • Provide physics support for accreditation programs and ensure compliance with applicable regulatory and accrediting bodies.
  • Develop radiation shielding design and participate in shielding integrity surveys for new facilities, renovations, and new equipment installations.
  • Provide patient and staff dosimetry estimates for clinical procedures and research protocols, and support radiation safety efforts related to dose review, optimization, and management.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain quality assurance programs, including protocol optimization and dose management.
  • Participate in the MGB Radiology Residency physics education program and contribute to teaching and training activities at Harvard Medical School.
  • Provide physics support for departmental research projects and pursue independent, investigator-initiated research in diagnostic imaging and radiation safety.
