About The Position

This is a 1.0 FTE non-continuing position for a DHH Primary 1,2,3 Teacher at Madrona K-8 School. It is a leave replacement position beginning as soon as hired through the end of the current 2025-26 school year ONLY. Our program pursues excellence for students in Deaf Education through visually accessible learning environments (American Sign Language) that promote literacy, problem solving skills, and academic and social growth in the least restrictive environment (LRE). Teachers plan and provide communication, social, and academic instruction for primary grade level students. This position requires you to: plan and provide educational activities for deaf and hard of hearing students with a wide range of learning needs; utilize ASL to communicate with students and staff; develop and implement student goals and objectives based on Individualized Education Plans (IEPs); be proficient in sign language with versatility from ASL to PSE as appropriate for instruction and communication; and have experience in creating meaningful activities and interactions in a DHH education setting preferred. Preference will be given to candidates that currently have an ELL, ESOL, or Bilingual endorsement. SIOP training and GLAD training offered by the Multilingual Education Department will be required for all new employees unless they can show evidence of having completed SIOP and GLAD training previously. Training will need to be completed within the first year of employment.

Requirements

  • Washington State Teaching Certificate with an endorsement in Special Education, or the ability to obtain one prior to the position start date.
