Job Description The University of Nevada, Reno is recruiting for a Development Technician 2 for the Nevada Seismological Laboratory. This position does not provide layoff rights and is contingent upon funding. Under the supervision of the Manager, Field Operations and under the mentorship and the general supervision of higher-level Development Technicians the Development Technician 2 would receive training in the procedures that go into building large-scale electronics circuits and power systems that operate the Nevada Seismological Laboratory, Fire Camera and Seismic Networks. Primary responsibilities include the following: maintaining and calibrating remote seismic and fire camera stations; assisting with the repair and adjustment of IP microwave radios, power supplies/solar systems, data recording devices, and various other seismological instruments; performing bench repairs, testing, modifications and adjustment of equipment; assisting with the fabrication of electronic systems and assemblies; and other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in electrical or mechanical engineering or related field and one (1) year of experience in the fabrication, maintenance, calibration, repair and modification of a variety of electrical, mechanical and/or computerized equipment and computer systems; OR Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in electronics or related field and two (2) years of experience in the fabrication, maintenance, calibration, repair and modification of a variety of electrical, mechanical and/or computerized equipment and computer systems; OR An equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
  • Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
  • This position requires driving; a driver’s license is a condition of employment.
