About The Position

The University of Nevada, Reno is recruiting for a Development Technician 3 for the Nevada Seismological Laboratory. This position does not provide layoff rights and is contingent upon funding. Under the supervision of the Manager of Seismic and Fire Camera Operations, the Development Technician 3 supports the installation, maintenance, and expansion of the fire camera and seismic monitoring network for the Nevada Seismological Laboratory. This position assists with assigned technical projects and contributes to departmental operations by applying established technical knowledge in electronics, mechanical systems, and related principles. This role performs equipment fabrication and modification tasks, including determining appropriate materials and components, assembling, debugging, calibrating, installing, modifying, repairing, and maintaining circuitry components and mechanical parts. The Development Technician 3 utilizes working knowledge and experience in IP radio communications to support monitoring and communication systems. This role ensures adherence to safety standards in laboratory and field environments and provides technical assistance, training support, and consultation to Development Technician 1 and 2 positions, as assigned. The position works collaboratively with senior staff and contributes to project goals under general supervision.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in electrical or mechanical engineering or related field and two (2) years of experience in the fabrication, maintenance, calibration, repair and modification of a variety of electrical, mechanical and/or computerized equipment and computer systems; OR An equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
  • Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
