About The Position

St. Francis Center (SFC), an institution of the Episcopal Diocese of Colorado, was established in 1983. SFC is a refuge for people experiencing homelessness in the metro Denver area. Our programs and services are tailored toward adults and focus on daytime shelter, social services, health and wellness, housing, employment, outreach, and non-congregate shelter operations for people transitioning out of homelessness. In SFC’s services, the people we serve can work with a variety of specialists, depending on their individual needs, to establish the first step toward transformation, new beginnings, and stability. We are currently looking for a Development Officer. This is a Full-Time, exempt position eligible for an excellent benefit package as outlined below. The St. Francis Center Development Officer is a vital member of the development team that manages numerous functions including fundraising efforts, community outreach, corporate communications, grant and major donor management, and advocacy. The position reports to the Chief Development Officer. The Development Officer must show a growth-mindset and be willing to develop a deep understanding of the strengths and needs of the St. Francis Center. The Development Officer must also be dedicated to representing the St. Francis Center in community, fundraising, and advocacy settings. This position requires working some evenings and weekends and some activities will require working in non-traditional workplaces.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • At least 5 years of experience in non-profit development, including experience in events, direct mail, and grant proposals
  • Excellent communication skills in various media including in person, telephone, and electronic
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to multitask
  • Strong ability to delegate tasks and duties
  • Strong commitment to St. Francis Center’s mission and vision
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Public speaking and facilitation skills
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in using the Microsoft Office Suite, database management, and other productivity tools
  • Growth-oriented mindset and willingness to learn

Responsibilities

  • Develops traditional media opportunities and relationships to help position the St. Francis Center as a prime source of expertise in reporting on homelessness and issues facing our guests.
  • Cultivates St. Francis Center’s Social Media presence to increase visibility and awareness of SFC’s work and accomplishments.
  • Designs and implements a crisis communications plan for SFC.
  • Drafts and circulates regular newsletters to external and internal recipients to encourage awareness of SFC’s work and growth.
  • Advocates on behalf of the Center with funders and community, and identifies opportunities to recruit support for the Center.
  • Represent the organization at community meetings and events.
  • Oversees major events during the year, including the Positive Action Towards Housing (“PATH”) Lunch in May and the annual gala in the autumn.
  • Seeks opportunities for additional events in support of St. Francis Center.
  • Arranges events including identifying, selecting, and working with venues, contractors, and staff and volunteers.
  • Develops events to ensure best practices are followed and to increase the fundraising impact of the events.
  • Collaborates with the Chief Development Officer to hone and execute the organization’s fundraising plan.
  • Develops, drafts, and implements direct mail strategies to maintain donor relationships and raise funds.
  • Manages and executes grant cycle activities, including drafting proposals, reporting, and meeting with funders.
  • Identifies and cultivates connections with community stakeholders to increase organizational capacity.
  • Maintains development/fundraising database.
