About The Position

The Development Manager position at Public Health Solutions (PHS) will lead and execute comprehensive fundraising strategies, supporting the cultivation of major donor relationships, managing all aspects of our philanthropic support program, and directing prospect research, gift processing, and donor acknowledgment operations. The ideal candidate is a seasoned fundraising professional who has led fundraising campaigns including high-profile donor events and appeals; is a strong writer and communicator with experience creating compelling donor communications; is a confident leader who can manage junior staff, vendors, and donor relationships; and possesses deep expertise in prospect research, gift processing, and fundraising database systems.   Specifically, the development manager will:  Partner with the Senior Director of Communications, development team members, and consultants to lead the organization's fundraising function, including ownership of strategies to meet and exceed annual fundraising goals. Support the acquisition of new donors and manage the cultivation and stewardship of existing donor relationships for individuals and corporate partners, ensuring long-term philanthropic engagement. Conduct research to compile comprehensive donor and prospect profiles; maintain and optimize records in Raiser's Edge; and develop and manage donor and revenue tracking reports. Lead the planning and execution of all fundraising campaigns and associated communications and logistics, including donor appeals, issue-focused fundraising efforts, donor receptions, onsite and virtual fundraising initiatives, and the annual gala event. Write, review, and distribute all PHS donor communications, including appeal letters, donor newsletters, event invitations, donor acknowledgments, and other materials as assigned. Manage and mentor junior development staff, providing guidance, workflow oversight, and performance support to ensure team-wide alignment with departmental goals. Collaborate cross-functionally with other PHS departments to advance organizational fundraising priorities. In addition to the above, perform all other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or equivalent.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in fundraising or development.
  • Strong proficiency with donor databases (Blackbaud’s Raiser’s Edge preferred), research tools, and search engines; demonstrated ability to manage prospect research, gift processing, donor acknowledgments, and revenue tracking at a departmental scale.
  • Proven track record managing individual and corporate donor portfolios and leading successful fundraising campaigns and donor appeals.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability; detail-oriented, proactive, and resourceful with a track record of working independently and managing cross-departmental initiatives.
  • Strong judgment and willingness to take initiative; skilled at applying creative problem-solving as necessary.
  • Excellent presentation skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, database management systems, and other relevant technology platforms.
  • Highly self-motivated, flexible, and skilled at multitasking; able to perform well under pressure with a mission-driven orientation.
  • A commitment to representing PHS with enthusiasm, warmth, and professionalism in all interactions.
