About The Position

The Development Intern is responsible for supporting the Preservation Foundation of the Lake County Forest Preserve District’s ongoing fundraising activities, while gaining an understanding of the different activities and actions that help build authentic connections between the District and potential donors.  Assists with special events and community engagement events. Helps the Donor Relations team with gift processing, including entering gifts into Raiser’s Edge, and producing daily, weekly and monthly donor correspondence. Produces a weekly fundraising report.  Assists the Major Gifts Manager with donor walks or tours.  Works with the Grant Specialist to understand the grant process, seek grants and apply for funding. May participate in research and event planning, data entry tasks, and online learning. The Development Intern will attend Forest Preserve meetings and Preservation Foundation Board and Committee meetings. Some evening and weekend availability is required. Performs lifting tasks up to 25 pounds.  Drives a motorized vehicle to travel to different locations.  Performs tasks that will require walking, bending, stooping, standing, kneeling, climbing, reaching, and sitting.

Requirements

  • Recent graduate of, or current student in, a two- or four-year college program with an emphasis in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Non-Profit Management, Business, or related program
  • Interest in learning about fundraising
  • General knowledge of MS Office suite
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to follow through on projects and work independently in a deadline-oriented team environment
  • Must possess a valid motor vehicle driver’s license
