About The Position

The Development Communications Associate is a part-time (18-20 hours per week) opportunity for a strong writer who wants to build a career in nonprofit fundraising. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys turning real community impact into compelling stories, working with deadlines, and seeing their writing directly support revenue and mission growth. In this role, you will draft grant proposals and reports, appeal letters and donor communications, and coordinate fundraising campaigns. Working closely with senior leadership, you’ll gain hands-on experience in development strategy while sharpening your skills in persuasive writing, research, and project management. If you are organized, detail-oriented, and motivated by meaningful work that strengthens community health and wellness, this role offers both purpose and professional growth.

Requirements

  • 1–2 years of experience in writing, communications or marketing. Nonprofit work preferred
  • Strong writing and editing skills with attention to tone, clarity, and detail
  • Ability to learn grant proposal structure and donor communication best practices
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple deadlines
  • Comfortable gathering information and translating it into clear written content
  • Strong interpersonal skills and professional communication style
  • Ability to work independently on assigned projects while collaborating with team members
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; willingness to learn donor database systems
  • Ability to handle confidential information appropriately

Nice To Haves

  • Prior fundraising experience helpful but not required

Responsibilities

  • Draft grant proposals, letters of inquiry, and grant reports under the direction of senior staff
  • Research prospective foundation and corporate funders
  • Manage the grants calendar, including tracking deadlines and reporting requirements
  • Draft and proofread appeal letters, email campaigns, and donor acknowledgements
  • Draft donor impact reports and stewardship communications
  • Compile program data, statistics, and patient stories for use in fundraising materials
  • Support mail and digital fundraising campaigns (e.g. Give Local Piedmont, Giving Tuesday), including coordination of timelines and materials
  • Maintain accurate donor records in collaboration with administrative staff
  • Provide project coordination support for fundraising initiatives and special campaigns
