About The Position

The Development Assistant supports the organization’s fundraising, donor engagement, and resource development efforts. This role provides administrative, logistical, and research support to ensure the smooth execution of development activities, including donor communications, special events, grants, and stewardship initiatives. The Development Assistant works closely with the CEO, Director of Development and other development staff to advance the mission of the Boys & Girls Club of Worcester. This is a temporary (3-6 months), 25 hour, Monday-Friday on-site position. This temporary position offers hands-on experience across all aspects of nonprofit development, including grants, donor relations, and events, with mentorship from senior leadership. It is ideal for candidates seeking to build a foundation in nonprofit fundraising and advancement.

Requirements

  • One to two years of training or experience in resource development, fundraising, nonprofit administration, or a related field.
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook); experience with donor databases preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the planning, coordination, and execution of mass mailings, including marketing materials, annual reports, appeals, special event invitations, and other development-related communications.
  • Ensure all materials are prepared and mailed by deadlines established by the CEO or Director of Development.
  • Support donor stewardship activities, including preparing donor thank-you communications and follow-up correspondence.
  • Assist with prospect research to identify potential donors, sponsors, and funding opportunities.
  • Assist with grant-writing by conducting research, drafting or editing content as requested, gathering required documentation, and assembling grant proposals.
  • Help track grant deadlines, submissions, and reporting requirements.
  • Assist with the planning and implementation of fundraising and stewardship events designed to engage alumni, donors, corporate partners, and media.
  • Support event logistics, including invitations, registration tracking, materials preparation, vendor coordination, and on-site support.
  • Assist with post-event follow-up, including donor acknowledgments and reporting.
  • Assist with scheduling appointments and meetings for the CEO with donors, funders, and key stakeholders.
  • Prepare meeting materials, agendas, and briefing documents as needed.
  • Provide general administrative support to the development function, including filing, correspondence, and recordkeeping.
  • Coordinate with internal departments to gather information, stories, and data for fundraising and communications materials.
