About The Position

A Detox Assistant ensures the safety of and provide quality care to detox clients. They maintain program schedule, program guidelines, and daily program activities. They assist in creating a healing and safe environment for residents in line with the agency’s core values of respect, compassion, and integrity.

Requirements

  • Sensitivity and ability to work with people of various races, cultures, socioeconomic levels, and sexual orientations.
  • Ability to provide services in line with Nexus core values of respect, compassion, and integrity.
  • Knowledge regarding signs and symptoms of withdrawal.
  • Ability to utilize detox nursing evaluation instruments.
  • Ability to appropriately monitor and manage the care of detox clients.
  • Knowledge regarding detox and psychotropic medications.
  • Understanding of state licensure standards and Joint Commission standards and ability to provide services in accordance with the standards.
  • Ability to gather and document client health histories and current medical symptoms.
  • Observing and documenting administration of medications to Detox clients.
  • Recording significant events related to clients’ medical issues.
  • Managing medical crisis and providing direction to staff according to a crisis management model.
  • Maintaining positive working relationships with local vendors such as the pharmacy and lab.
  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities to interact effectively with all levels of staff and external stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with Welligent, CMBHS, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other relevant administrative tools.
  • Understanding Trauma Responsive Care.
  • Understanding of teleconferencing and virtual meeting platforms.
  • Graduated from an accredited Medical Assistant or Certified Nurse Assistant program required.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as doctor’s notes/orders, licensure standards, etc.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to present information effectively to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization in one-on-one and small group situations.
  • Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s.
  • Ability to perform these operations using units of weight, measurement, volume, and distance.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to solve practical problems involving a variety of concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to performs assigned duties and responsibilities with neatness, accuracy and a degree of excellence in a timely manner.

Nice To Haves

  • CNA or MA license preferred, and all training required by agency.
  • Certification as CPR and First Aid instructor preferred.

Responsibilities

  • CONFERS with medical staff and discusses detox clients’ evaluations as warranted.
  • CONDUCTS vitals and enters vitals into CMBHS, and Welligent for detox clients.
  • ENSURES client medical and behavioral health care needs are addressed through the coordination of services with Parkland’s Medical Van, agency Medical Providers, and all outside providers.
  • PROVIDES supervision of medication to clients according to guidelines established by licensing/regulatory/agency standards and policies and procedures.
  • ASSURES clients adhere to the medication schedule.
  • RECORDS significant events/concerns as related to client medical issues.
  • MANAGES crisis situations; notify Program Director, Chief Clinical Officer, Director of Compliance, and Medical Director as necessary.
  • MAINTAINS accurate documentation in staff logs, shift reports, incident reports, facility forms, and/or other reports promptly.
  • COMPLETES appropriate documentation of any significant events for detox clients.
  • COMPLETES hourly checks of the dorm and clients present in the dorm by physically making rounds.
  • ATTENDS program treatment team meetings, as required.
  • ATTENDS monthly All Staff Meeting.
  • ATTENDS in person CPI, and Ethics Training yearly according to Nexus regulations.
  • COMPLETES yearly BHC trainings.
  • PROVIDES emergency direction as appropriate.
  • PERFORMS random room searches and bed checks according to program policies when necessary.
  • Prepares rooms for new clients by disinfecting and cleaning mattresses and dressers.
  • ASSURES various forms are updated and supplied for client’s use.
  • CONDUCTS and documents urine screenings.
  • PROVIDES information to clients related to medical resources, i.e. Parkland, Stewpot, etc.
  • ASSISTS clients with moderate health care problems, e.g. blood-pressure checks, etc.
  • INTERFACES with agency medical providers to provide appropriate information and documentation, as necessary.
  • MAINTAINS accurate client Electronic Medication Administration Records (EMAR).
  • INFORM manager of medication supplies needed.
  • COMPLETES chart audits and medication administration record audits.
  • CONDUCT health education and medication management education and training as assigned.
  • COMPLIES with all licensing and regulatory standards for medication storage, disposal, counting, reconciliation, etc.
  • CHECK IN/OUT client belongings on admission/discharge from Nexus, as required.
  • CONDUCTS client room searches as necessary.
  • DEMONSTRATES regular predictable attendance and punctuality.
  • OTHER DUTIES MAY BE ASSIGNED.
