This position is responsible for the transportation of inmates within the custody of the Eddy County Detention Center to and from courts and other appearances, Department of corrections, medical appointments, mental health facilities, other institutions and jurisdictions or as directed by the Transportation Coordinator. Employee is responsible for: the safety of the inmates while on transport and the protection of the general public; maintaining liaison between other correctional institutions and law enforcement agencies; and maintaining confidentiality and security for special assignments. Transport Officer must be able to become certified within one month in CPR and First Aid, pass 40 hours Defensive Tactics Course within two months of hire and re-certify yearly. Transport Officer must successfully pass the 160-hour Detention Officer Certification course within one year of hire, and a Defensive Driving Course within six months of hire. Transport Officer will be required to qualify with firearms within the first two months of hire and maintain bi-annual certification. Transport Officer may be required to rotate through the Eddy County Detention Center and supervise and/or monitor behavior of residents, coordinate and cooperate with law enforcement agencies and judiciary agencies as necessary. Plans and performs a wide range of detention duties to ensure the proper booking, incarceration and safety of persons committed to the Detention Center. Employee must perform all duties with minimal supervision. Detention and Transport officers may be assigned to duty stations in the Adult Male Unit, Adult Female Unit or Juvenile Detention Center. Employee may be required to work irregular hours, attend job-related meetings, and perform other duties assigned.
