About The Position

This position involves professional and technical investigative work focused on collecting facts and determining circumstances related to petty, misdemeanor, and felony criminal offenses within the County's jurisdiction. The Detective also performs all law enforcement functions typically handled by a Patrol Deputy, enforcing local, state, and federal laws and ordinances to protect the public's life, health, safety, welfare, and property. A key aspect of the role is assisting community members in problem-solving and maintaining peace.

Requirements

Ability to perform all law enforcement functions of the Patrol Deputy in the enforcement of local, state, and federal laws and ordinances for the protection of life, health, safety, welfare and property of the public and community.

Responsibilities

Respond to emergent and non-emergent complaints of crimes or incidents.
Develop leads.
Collect and analyze facts and data necessary for the development and documentation of probable cause and for the solution of assigned cases.
Coordinate, conduct, and lead all aspects of investigations of crime scenes or incidents to gather pertinent facts and information.
Direct the activities of personnel involved in investigative efforts and provide technical guidance to Deputies conducting initial investigative procedures.
Oversee and conduct follow-up investigations.
Prepare affidavits for search and arrest warrants.
Assist Deputies in preparing affidavits for warrants.
Interview victims, witnesses, participants, and suspects at the scene of an incident or crime.
Conduct searches and gather records, as well as preserving evidence and/or contraband.
Apprehend and interview/interrogate suspects.
Prepare detailed reports of the results of investigations.
Prepare documentation and case files to be forwarded to the District Attorney's office with requests for prosecution.
Participate in continuing education in specialty areas such as Evidence collection, Forensic Interviewing, DNA collection, Photography, Sexual Assault, Victim based crimes, Court Testimony, etc.
