About The Position

EMCO Technologies is seeking a hands-on Desktop Technician-Advanced Level, to provide operational IT support for our ExxonMobil customer in Baytown, TX. In this role you will provide operational IT support for research and engineering laboratories. This role supports a mixed environment of legacy and modern systems, many of which interface directly with engineering and scientific instruments. This is a hands-on, environment-specific role requiring comfort with non-standard Windows configurations, legacy hardware, and systems that cannot always follow standard enterprise upgrade paths. The ideal candidate enjoys deep troubleshooting,umentation, and long-term system ownership.

Requirements

  • Proven experience supporting multiple versions of Microsoft Windows, including Windows XP, 7, 10, and 11
  • Comfort working with legacy and non-standard system configurations, including: Windows kiosk mode Windows test mode (driver signature enforcement disabled) Legacy protocols such as SMBv1
  • Solid understanding of networking fundamentals, including: Internal vs. external IP addressing DHCP vs. static IP configurations Systems with multiple NICs and proxy-based architectures
  • Hands-on experience with hardware integration, including: PCI card installation/removal Serial and parallel adapters Device drivers for instrument-connected systems
  • Strong troubleshooting mindset with the ability to research, test, and validate solutions
  • Strong communication skills and a customer-service-oriented approach
  • Excellentumentation skills
  • Ability to read and understand scripts (PowerShell, batch, shell); ability to write basic scripts is a strong plus
  • Experience remotely managing systems via Active Directory and Remote Desktop

Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day operational support for lab computer systems and LabLAN environments
  • Manage LabLAN and non-domain user accounts, including local system configurations
  • Support and participate in domain migration projects, moving systems from a legacy domain to a secure Research domain
  • Maintain and reconcile lab inventory (hardware, systems, and configurations) on an ongoing basis
  • Test and support application virtualization and VDI initiatives, reducing reliance on proxy systems where feasible
  • Work closely with other lab technicians, internal IT teams, and external vendors to deliver technical solutions, upgrades, and preventative maintenance
  • Support applications that control laboratory and engineering instruments, ensuring system stability and uptime
  • Troubleshoot systems with non-standard Windows configurations (kiosk mode, test mode, legacy protocols)
  • Document system configurations, procedures, issues, and resolutions in accordance with internal standards
