About The Position

Applicants may choose to apply for the Desk Manager (DM) position for Summer 2026, Academic Year 2026-2027, or both. The responsibilities and expectations are the same for each term. Summer DM Appointment: May 11 - August 4, 2026 Academic Year DM Appointment: July 31, 2026 - May 10, 2027 Desk Managers work an average of 20 hours per week on a flexible schedule that they help determine. Desk Managers (DMs) are student staff members who provide leadership and support to University Housing operations. Similar to Resident Assistants, DMs serve as liaisons and community builders between residents, Desk Assistants (DAs), Resident Assistants (RAs), and University Housing. DMs supervise DAs, oversee front desk and mail/package operations, provide customer service, and assist with administrative tasks, support community-building initiatives, and participate in an on-call rotation. This position offers opportunities to develop leadership, administrative, and customer service skills, as well as pathways for growth within University Housing. Although compensation includes a residential space, University Housing reserves the right to assign roommates based on occupancy needs. Requirements

  • Undergraduate candidates must have a cumulative and semester GPA of 2.5 or higher, while graduate candidates must have a cumulative and semester GPA of 3.5 or higher.
  • Candidates must be able to live in University-assigned on-campus housing and be available to attend weekly staff meetings as well as work some nights and weekends.
  • Desk Managers are expected to discuss any internships or other jobs during their employment with the Coordinator for Residential Services.
  • All students must be in good standing with the University both financially and behaviorally.
  • Interested applicants must complete an online student employment application and attach a resume.
  • Any candidate offered the position will be required to undergo a pre-employment criminal background check as mandated by state law.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise, train, and mentor Desk Assistants (DAs)
  • Manage front desk operations and mail/package distribution
  • Respond to resident questions, issues, and emergencies
  • Assist with check-ins, lockouts, and other desk duties
  • Participate in on-call rotation to handle emergencies
  • Support community-building initiatives (e.g., hall programs, decorating common areas)
  • Collaborate with DAs, RAs, and Housing staff
  • Provide administrative support to the Coordinator for Residential Services and Housing Staff
  • Submit reports documenting incidents or issues during shifts
