Purpose Provides advanced mechanical design and modeling support for engineering projects by producing detailed drawings and 3D solid models using computer-aided design (CAD) systems. Collaborates with engineers, designers, and sales teams to develop constructible, code-compliant mechanical components and systems that meet project requirements, schedules, and business objectives.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent commensurate experience required.
  • Eight or more (8+) years of relevant industry-related experience and proficiency in detail design work.
  • Knowledge of fabrication and construction that is incorporated in designs and drawings.
  • Demonstrated ability to process engineering changes to existing drawings.
  • Working knowledge of design and drafting procedures.
  • Design experience to include successfully creating 3-D mechanical models and/or to create drawings from 3-D models.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, CADWorks, or similar mechanical design software.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's degree in mechanical engineering, architecture or similar discipline preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform work under limited supervision, receiving general direction on complex assignments and overall objectives.
  • Independently apply sound mechanical design principles, standards, and techniques.
  • Review work products prepared by other designers or engineers to ensure quality, accuracy, and adherence to established standards.
  • Provide technical guidance and informal mentoring to less experienced staff as appropriate.
  • Work closely with senior engineers and designers to support and advance mechanical design efforts.
  • Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary design teams to coordinate mechanical designs with other disciplines.
  • Interact with clients and regulatory agencies to support design coordination, permitting, and approvals.
  • Support project planning activities, including schedule development, budgeting, and coordination with internal stakeholders.
  • Produce detailed mechanical drawings and models using computer-assisted drafting and design systems such as AutoCAD and CADWorks.
  • Prepare, review, and revise drawings to clearly communicate mechanical engineering and architectural concepts.
  • Develop and document concepts, sketches, layouts, models, submittals, instructions, and complete production drawing packages.
  • Create and maintain accurate 3D mechanical engineering models and drawings in accordance with applicable specifications, codes, and standards.
  • Perform design calculations and prepare material, component, and equipment specifications.
  • Provide sketches, redlines, and technical notes for incorporation into construction and fabrication documents.
  • Perform moderate to complex design tasks and prepare portions of project plans, specifications, and technical documentation.
  • Independently and collaboratively support planning, design, and research activities on conventional engineering projects.
  • Evaluate, analyze, interpret, and apply standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria.
  • Assist in identifying and resolving incomplete, conflicting, or unclear design inputs.
  • Prepare permit applications, construction documents, and opinions of probable construction cost.
  • Perform and support QA/QC reviews of drawings, specifications, and construction documents.
  • Independently resolve design challenges by selecting and interpreting information from appropriate engineering resources.
  • Ability to work both independently and within a team environment.
