About The Position

Designs components or portions of systems and modifies existing designs to develop or improve products and facilitate manufacturing operations. Utilizes computer-aided design equipment and/or graphic tools such as, CAD, CAM, NX, or CATIA. Gathers information, makes studies, computes calculations, and prepares original rough layouts, sketches to present design proposal. Coordinates design criteria with engineering, manufacturing, tooling, material, and planning group such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials, and contractual specifications. Exclude classifications in which incumbents predominantly perform drafting assignments. Technical Support for shipboard/shop trades in a waterfront environment to support New Construction and/or RCOH. Ideal candidate shall have waterfront experience, be able to mentor less experienced team members where applicable, and support the supervisor in a variety of tasks. Perform ship checks as well as interface with our customers which include the Project Office, Construction team, Navy, Trade Teams, and Supply Chain. E61 is hiring 4 positions of Designer 3's on this requisition, so we are looking for employees that have experience in one or more of the following - distributed systems, mechanical components, outfitting, and/or electrical. We are not expecting candidates to know all of those different areas already. However, candidates should have the willingness to adapt and step-up in other disciplines as needed once trained.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree and 3 years of relevant experience
  • NNS Apprentice School graduate or Navy Nuclear Power School (NNPS) graduate or High School/GED and 2 years of related Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience may be used as equivalent to Associate's Degree to meet minimum qualifications
  • High School/GED and 4 years of non-related Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience

Nice To Haves

  • Excellent communication, both written and verbal, and problem solving skills
  • Critical thinking skills
  • Ability to work as a member of an interdisciplinary team (piping, machinery, outfitting, and/or electrical)
  • Teamcenter/NX
  • Familiarity with SAP (mainly ZEIR preferred) and VWI's
  • Knowledge of Visual Work Instructions (VWIs)
  • Knowledge of the lost material process
