About The Position

Designs components or portions of systems and modifies existing designs to develop or improve products and facilitate manufacturing operations. Utilizes computer-aided design equipment and/or graphic tools such as, CAD, CAM, NX, or CATIA. Gathers information, makes studies, computes calculations, and prepares original rough layouts, sketches to present design proposal. Coordinates design criteria with engineering, manufacturing, tooling, material, and planning group such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials, and contractual specifications. Exclude classifications in which incumbents predominantly perform drafting assignments. This position requires demonstrated expertise with digital initiatives, reality capture, 3D modeling programs, translation and management of design files, and expertise with advanced design technology and innovation projects. This job requires thorough knowledge of accepted piping & amp, mechanical design methods and concepts, ships checking skills. The applicant must be familiar with engineering design, security, and other principles relating to Naval Ship Design. May require the ability to physically access a wide variety of working sites, including those aboard commissioned ships, including the use of vertical and inclined ladders and may involve limited kneeling, stooping, standing, etc. Ability to obtain and retain a security clearance and may require the ability to obtain and retain full or partial radiation worker qualifications. Applicant should have demonstrated history of collaborative relationships with both internal and external customers achieved through strong interpersonal, organizational and communication skills.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree and 3 years of relevant experience
  • One of the following may be used as equivalent to Associate's Degree to meet minimum qualifications:
  • NNS Apprentice School graduate
  • Navy Nuclear Power School (NNPS) graduate
  • High School/GED and 2 years of related Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience
  • High School/GED and 4 years of non-related Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience

Nice To Haves

  • Understanding of shipbuilding processes and military specifications
  • Ability to perform design related math functions and have the ability to read and interpret written instructions and drawings
  • Familiarity with Submarine Planning Yard Products (LAR, RLAR, SRD, ShipAlt, etc.)
  • Ability to use AutoCad, AutoCad Inventor, Sharepoint, NX, and basic computer skills (e.g. MS Office Suite
  • Good communication skills and a willingness to learn and work in a team environment
