About The Position

Designs components or portions of systems and modifies existing designs to develop or improve products and facilitate manufacturing operations. Utilizes computer-aided design equipment and/or graphic tools such as, CAD, CAM, NX, or CATIA. Gathers information, makes studies, computes calculations, and prepares original rough layouts, sketches to present design proposal. Coordinates design criteria with engineering, manufacturing, tooling, material, and planning group such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials, and contractual specifications. Exclude classifications in which incumbents predominantly perform drafting assignments. This position will be in the Aircraft Carrier Engineering Propulsion Machinery Department (E64), which leads the US Navy in the design, repair, and modernization of propulsion machinery and piping systems on Aircraft Carriers. Our components and systems literally move these massive aircraft carriers! Our work directly supports the mission readiness of these US Navy assets, which defend our country’s freedom and provide humanitarian support around the world. This position will primarily be focused on develop drawings and sketches to repair or modernize the ship's propulsion plant piping systems and complex components. Must HaveAssociate's Degree and 3 years of relevant experience One of the following may be used as equivalent to Associate's Degree to meet minimum qualifications: NNS Apprentice School graduate Navy Nuclear Power School (NNPS) graduate High School/GED and 2 years of related Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience High School/GED and 4 years of non-related Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience

Nice To Haves

Trained in AutoCAD or similar computer-aided drafting software and design practices
Good communication skills, and is detail-oriented
Comfortable visiting production environments, climbing vertical and inclined ladders, accessing confined spaces, and occasionally traveling
Ideal candidate is also familiar with the US Navy aircraft carrier modernization and maintenance process, particularly planning and executing refueling complex overhauls (RCOHs) of aircraft carrier propulsion plants
