About The Position

This role offers the opportunity to contribute to the design and development of marine vessels, supporting both new construction and repair projects. You will work on a variety of design tasks, including 2D and 3D modeling, creating installation and fabrication drawings, and resolving design-related challenges. The position allows for hands-on collaboration with construction teams and occasional site visits to verify designs. You will apply your technical knowledge to extract computer-aided manufacturing data and ensure designs comply with required standards. The role supports multiple shifts and promotes skill growth through exposure to advanced CAD/CAM tools and marine design practices. It is ideal for candidates who enjoy a blend of technical design work, problem-solving, and practical application in a dynamic maritime environment.

Requirements

  • 2nd Class Designer: Minimum four years of design experience, or a Bachelor’s degree in a technical field, or Associate/Vocational degree with two years of design experience.
  • 3rd Class Designer: High School diploma or Trade/Technical/Vocational program completion, with CAD/design proficiency.
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office; 3D CAD and AutoCAD experience required.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and follow technical procedures and standards.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of CAD/CAM, MasterCAM, 5-Axis, G-Code, and CATIA
  • Experience in Loft, Structural, Electrical, Mechanical, or Hull Outfit disciplines
  • Completion of marine design training programs.

Responsibilities

  • Perform marine design activities, including 2D and 3D modeling, visualization, and drafting of ship alteration and installation drawings.
  • Resolve design-related issues during ship construction, collaborating with construction teams to ensure accuracy and feasibility.
  • Extract computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) data to support fabrication and production.
  • Conduct ship checks through visits to construction sites or fabrication facilities when required.
  • Ensure designs comply with technical standards, procedures, and project specifications.
  • Support team collaboration, mentoring, and effective communication throughout the design process.
