PURPOSE This individual is responsible for creating truss and/or wall panel designs and drawings prepared directly from information submitted on a company order form, client’s customer selection sheet, repeated from previous jobs, or from information developed by a design manager. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES This position is located at our De Pere, WI (in office preferred). Three years experience in wood truss and or panel design primarily dealing with mid to large sized residential and / or commercial multi-family projects preferred. Experience with project management, Mitek program and or PlanSwift would be a plus. Based on a 40-hour work week but be open to overtime if current workload requires it. Target working hours 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, but willing to be flexible if needed. Ability to read and analyze construction plans / documents. Analyzes technical data and reports to determine if design meets functional and performance specifications. Understands the building code and applies knowledge of special truss industry issues. Addresses issues appropriately. This position will be working closely with sales staff and customers. Some jobsite visits may be required. Often communicates with building designers, builders, framers, architects, and structural engineers to obtain or clarify information shown on construction drawings. Strong critical thinking skills, problem solving, and little direction from management is preferred. Person may be assisting in scheduling truss / panel technician work and monitoring jobs through the department. Prepares complex wood truss / panel design and layout drawings using proprietary software. These layout drawings may include beams and metal connectors / hold downs sized and supplied by the company. Team atmosphere working environment with each member doing their part to provide the components and materials to complete signed construction projects. Reviews and checks layout and design drawings prepared by less experienced truss technicians and assists in making modifications prior to releasing drawings to the field or production. Assists in training inexperienced truss technicians when needed. Associate’s degree (A.A.) from two-year college or technical school and two years’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.

Requirements

  • Ability to read and analyze construction plans / documents.
  • Strong critical thinking skills, problem solving, and little direction from management is preferred.

  • 3 years or truss design / estimating experience
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
  • Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.
  • Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Nice To Haves

  • Three years experience in wood truss and or panel design primarily dealing with mid to large sized residential and / or commercial multi-family projects preferred.
  • Experience with project management, Mitek program and or PlanSwift would be a plus.
  • Preferably experience with Mitek, MS Word, MS Excel, and PlanSwift
