About The Position

This role is categorized as hybrid, meaning the selected candidate will be expected to work on‑site at the Warren Tech Center at least three days per week (or other frequency determined by their manager). This role is not eligible for relocation assistance About the Role: We are looking for an initiative-taking individual contributor who has knowledge and experience with movable roof systems and has a desire to work on implementing new subsystems in vehicles as a Design Release Engineer (DRE). Applicants must have broad technical knowledge combined with leadership, creativity, and independent thinking to be successful in this role. The DRE is responsible to develop requirements and sourcing packages, manage PDT timing through GVDP milestones, ensure success of tool kick off (TKO) and material required dates (MRDs), ensure peer reviews and component review valves are completed on time, coordinate validation and verification activity, and guide the PDT through subsystem launch. This role requires an engineer to be a leader who can drive a cross functional product development team (PDT) that includes suppliers as key members along with internal GM peers in the creative design (Styling), purchasing, manufacturing, and quality functions. Candidates should possess outstanding communication and project management skills, be enthusiastic and diligent, who enjoys taking on complex & ambiguous challenges and following through with robust solutions, and desire to build technical depth with movable roofs and roof trim hardware subsystems.

Requirements

  • BS in Engineering required.
  • Minimum 5 years of engineering & development work experience required.
  • Experience with actuated kinematic systems required.
  • Proficiency in writing and comprehending hardware requirements.
  • High level analytical problem-solving capability.
  • Understanding of materials, engineering theory and principles of design.
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to multitask and manage diverse activities concurrently.
  • Familiarity with System Integration into a Vehicle.
  • Familiarity with Design for Manufacturing (DFM).
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and take projects from start to finish.
  • Knowledge of DFSS Process
  • Knowledge of Red X Process
  • Experience using MS Office – Intermediate level.
  • Experience using Team Center

Nice To Haves

  • MS in Engineering.
  • Knowledge of hardware development, testing and associated tools.
  • FIT DFMEA training.

Responsibilities

  • Design release of Movable Roof & Roof Trim Systems
  • Lead cross-functional PDTs with suppliers integrated into the engineering team (SI3) and PDTs for build to print systems without integrated supplier engineering (SI1).
  • Lead and support cross functional team to ensure Requirements, CAE Standard Work, GMW’s, AVDP&R templates are correct.
  • Coordinate system integration into the vehicle.
  • Ensure project meets targeted program implementation timing and cost.
  • Maintains cost controls.
  • Support DFMEA development and updates.
  • Create and maintain Interface Control Document (ICD) strategy and ICD templates.
  • Ensure peer reviews and component review valves are completed on time.
  • Oversee Verification / Validation.
  • Author Engineering Work Orders to release the components for prototype and production vehicles.
  • Package Hardware components.
  • Troubleshoot component and vehicle level issues.
  • Work assigned issues in Problem Resolution Tracking System.
  • Work cross-functionally within GM, coordinating multiple suppliers.
  • Lead/manage supplier resident engineers.
  • Support sourcing activities.
  • Generate technical solutions for new vehicle programs.
  • Perform complex design analysis.
  • Initiate documents to provide engineering authority and to maintain math/CAD data.
  • Work with engineering functions, suppliers, plant personnel and others to implement cost reduction, methods, and product improvements, and to support build programs.
