About The Position

The Team: General Motors is at the forefront of the transformation in the automotive industry with the electrification of our portfolio and the development of industry-leading display solutions. Our Display Hardware Design & Development team is a dynamic, high-energy, and innovative group focused on developing designs of next generation display modules. The team is responsible for developing the electrical and mechanical design of the display modules and also reviewing and approving production display module design changes. The Display Module Hardware Design team’s mission is to ensure our products are designed to target the growing needs of our customers while ensuring robust, well-designed hardware which meets GM specifications and testing requirements from early hardware through production design. The Role: We are currently hiring for Design Release Engineers to support our Display Design & Development group, which is part of the Compute & Connectivity Hardware organization for General Motors. At this level you are expected to operate with a high level of independent discernment and are typically responsible for implementing functional strategy, administering and coordinating programs, counseling and advising management. As a fully-qualified individual contributor who has thorough knowledge and understanding of all aspects of the function, you will provide expert judgment and analysis for the design, development and implementation of technical products and systems. You will resolve highly complex technical issues and conducts advanced research. Recommend alterations to development and design to improve quality of products and/or procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in Engineering.
  • Possesses knowledge and experience in Automotive bus-based communication including GMLAN(CAN derivative), MOST, Ethernet and LVDS.
  • Understanding of engineering theory and principles of operation of mechanical/electrical mechanisms.
  • Specific knowledge of engineering discipline (e.g. mechanics, physics, metallurgy, manufacturing methods, electronics, software, control systems) within job-related area.
  • Proficient in Microsoft based program s (Word, Excel, Power Point, Access).
  • People Skills: High level of oral and written communication skills.
  • Very good interpersonal skills: ability to work within GM, with suppliers, and with program teams.
  • Ability to prioritize and balance multiple activities.
  • Ability to self-motivate / self-direct.
  • Problem solving proficiency.
  • High level analytical ability where problems are unusual and complex.

Responsibilities

  • Represent Display to program and other relative teams.
  • Develop Engineering Solutions and Release final design to production.
  • Initiate and conduct Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA).
  • Follow-up timing and part availability.
  • Prepare and track Engineering Change Request (ECR) for release documentation and changes.
  • Support and work with Hardware and Software Leads to release on time for programs.
  • Manage supplier resident engineer to resolve Display related issues.
  • Develop design alternatives and present them to management for decision.
  • Manage supplier resident engineer to release hardware / software on-time.
  • Manage Change Requests (CR/DN) and Problem Resolution Tracking System (PRTS+).
  • Coordinate design of component with vehicle changes.
  • Initiate, analyze and revise design if test/ manufacturing/ field problem are show in test reports or PRTS+ system and implement problem resolution.
  • Support Manufacturing and Service Engineering.
  • Support Product Engineering at distant locations.
  • Support Product Launch.
  • Support preparation of Owner’s manual, etc.
  • Support and work with QRD lead to investigate warranty issue
  • Lead PDT with suppliers.
  • Support SDIT with design studio.
