About The Position

Gewalt Hamilton Associates, Inc. (GHA) is an employee-owned, multi-disciplinary civil engineering and land surveying company known for delivering civil engineering solutions with a personal approach. We are currently seeking a Design Lead to join the Civil Design Division to join our growing team located in either our Vernon Hills. What you can expect: The Design Lead position will report to the Service Lead and will perform engineering design tasks for a wide variety of engineering projects. This role is an exempt, salaried position. We offer a hybrid work environment. Experience in permitting and navigating local agency requirements on projects offering as a supportive role to staff within the squad as well as other junior staff within the Division. Engage with the company’s strategic plan and assist various teams in developing the initiatives towards company goals. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • Fourteen (14) years of civil engineering, municipal engineering, or design experience including ten (10) years as a major contributor on contract deliverable development or project leader.
  • Extensive industry experience in at least one specific engineering discipline.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in the State of Illinois or another state with the ability to obtain licensure in Illinois within 6 months.
  • Valid Illinois Driver’s License and registered insured personal vehicle.
  • Ability to independently identify, evaluate, select, and apply engineering criteria and standards to manage the development of technical documents across several engineering disciplines.
  • Manage the development of technical documents frequently requiring the use of Engineering Design software or delegation of design software usage to team members.
  • Possess a thorough understanding of the requirements and processes of medium to high complexity projects sufficient for developing work plans and reviewing work products.
  • Self-starting, detail-oriented individual that will work in a collaborative environment to set and manage project and task scope/schedules/effort expectations in compliance with the Division’s Quality Management Plan and clearly communicates them to other team members.
  • Ability to manage personal schedule to align with multiple project schedules while communicating progress status to team members and supervisor.
  • Lead project-related communication and meetings with client and other stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate the ability to technically mentor and train mid-level engineers, while also researching and completing various industry training activities to maintain technical knowledge to continue mentoring.
  • Manage the development of project proposals and actively contribute to marketing initiatives and overall client management.
  • Proficiency with software products: Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, Teams, Word, PowerPoint, etc.) PDF editing software (Adobe, Bluebeam, etc.)

Nice To Haves

  • Additional professional licensure and certifications (Ex. PTOE, CFM, etc.).
  • Experience participating in industry professional societies preferred.
