About The Position

This position will serve as a Design Intern for the Seymour District Capital Program Management Division of the Indiana Department of Transportation. The Intern will be responsible for a variety of division projects and support. The objective of the position is to provide a valuable learning experience for the intern, as well as to assist the agency in completing their assignments and responsibilities. The Intern will report to Design Manager.

Requirements

• Working towards a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or a related field
• Basic knowledge of the mission and role of INDOT
• Basic understanding of state policies, procedures, rules, and regulations
• Knowledge of state government structure, administrative procedures, and the legislative process
• Ability to research, draft, and edit data and reports
• Analytical skills
• Ability to handle multiple projects
• Ability to operate computer tools
• Good research and writing skills
• Good interpersonal and communication skills suitable for a wide variety of contacts
• Confidence and ability to learn on the job and adapt quickly to changing circumstances

Nice To Haves

• Relevant work experience preferred

Responsibilities

• Ability to learn and apply computer-aided design for the preparation of transportation project plans
• Perform field visits to assess roads, bridges, pavement, or traffic structures for future projects
• Work with various internal departments to obtain project-related information and ensure accuracy
• Knowledge of, and ability to apply civil engineering theories, principles, methods, and procedures
• Conduct quantity calculations for the preparation of project cost estimates
• Other duties as assigned
