About The Position

As a Design Engineering intern, you'll be responsible for the creation of design definitions that meet system requirements and product attributes for new product designs. You'll exhibit technical knowledge in design with an understanding of manufacturing engineering and product definition. In this role, you'll review design definition concepts, complete design reviews and work with Manufacturing and Supply Chain to deliver products. This role aims to introduce you to the New Product Design team and the other sub-capabilities within Mechanical Systems. You'll help us to deliver our current commitments which largely focus on improving access to our specialist knowledge, including methods, tools, processes and technical data. There will be opportunities to work hands-on and participate in the Design Gated Review process. You'll also have exposure to several design and engineering analysis software tools related to component development and mechanical integrity. You'll have experience with Statics, Dynamics and Mechanics of Materials and the ability to exhibit the following behaviors: Deliver design solutions for components that address component requirements Perform engineering activities that include the following: mechanical design, analysis, hand calculations, tolerance stacks, presenting technical data and participating in technical discussions with manufacturing engineering Execute validation plans and show component compliance to requirements Support creation of detailed component definition (drawings) and support manufacturing to produce conforming hardware and/or disposition non-conforming hardware

Requirements

  • Proficient in both written and spoken English
  • Good interpersonal skills to work effectively in a team environment; willingness to accept responsibility and take initiative and drive to finish assigned tasks on schedule
  • Currently attending an accredited university/college working toward a minimum of a bachelor's degree: Aerospace Engineering or Mechanical Engineering
  • Minimum GPA: 3.0
  • Work authorization eligibility: To be considered, you must also be a U.S. Citizen. There is no visa sponsorship for this position.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with generic design processes as well as component specific design guidance.
  • Experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), and the creation of limit stacks.
  • Experience using computer aided design tools.
  • Experience with finite element analysis software tools.
  • Programming skills such as Visual Basic, Python, PERL, C++ and/or computational tools such as MATLAB
  • Familiarity with Aerospace/gas turbine engines
