Caterpillar’s Earth Moving division is hiring for Design Engineer in Mossville, IL. Role Summary: Joining our Operator Systems Engineering division as part of the Cab Climate System team means you will have a direct impact on ensuring machine operators remain safe, comfortable, and productive. The successful candidate will have responsibility to design, develop and release mobile HVAC related components and systems. They will participate in requirements gathering, functional specification creation, DFMEA & PFMEA exercises, validation planning, and troubleshooting activities.

Requirements

  • Degree Requirement: Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related fields.
  • Analytical Thinking: Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems.
  • Effective Communications: Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.
  • Managing Multiple Priorities: Knowledge of effective self-management practices; ability to manage multiple concurrent objectives, projects, groups, or activities, making effective judgments as to prioritizing and time allocation.
  • Computer-Aided Design & Engineering: Knowledge of tools and techniques of specialized graphics programs; ability to produce, analyze, simulate and test product design drafts.
  • Product Design and Development: Knowledge of product features; ability to design, build, and develop a new product, technology, or service from concept through to production.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience designing, testing, or building thermodynamic components and systems such as HVAC, battery thermal management, refrigeration systems, heat transfer or other
  • Knowledge of thermal system simulation software

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, build, and implement new components, products, or technologies used in machine cab climate systems.
  • Developing and documenting functional requirements and translating into detailed design documents, 3D models and 2D prints.
  • Organizing, coordinating, and executing the building, testing, and analysis of prototypes HVAC components and systems.
  • Support field quality issue investigations through inspection of failed parts.
