Overall, Scope: Assists with new product designs meeting OPW and industry standards. Designs new products with minimum supervision, recommends and carries out the maintenance of major changes. Handles existing product maintenance as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent design experience.
  • Minimum 3-5 years’ work experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • 3D CAD experience with solid modeling. (NX preferred)
  • Background in Engineering Change Notice (ECN) process and Product Development Process (PDP) is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to solicit the cooperation of others and positively influence the efforts and dynamics of work teams.
  • Professional presentation skills include persuasive communication skills, adept listening and highly developed interpersonal skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Background in Engineering Change Notice (ECN) process and Product Development Process (PDP) is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Assure that design and development tasks are carried out according to DFS/OPW process map.
  • Plan, schedule and coordinate detailed phases of engineering work as part of a major project or as a total project of moderate scope.
  • Performs work which involves conventional engineering practice but includes a variety of complex features such as conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of standard materials and difficult coordination requirements.
  • Recommend and assist in testing and experimentation to prove out designs and theory.
  • Provide accurate cost estimates and time schedules.
  • Supervise fabrication of working prototypes.
  • Prepare, modify and release drawings created in CAD to verify fit, form and function of mechanical designs.
  • Troubleshoot field and production issues, recommend and carry out changes as necessary.
  • Support Manufacturing, Purchasing, Quality Control, Sales, Marketing, Inventory Control, Production and Human Resources as needed
  • Operate in a team environment with other functional areas providing input to design solutions and participate in design reviews.
  • Participate in cost reduction programs and coordinate cost reductions as necessary.
  • Work closely with manufacturing to identify improvements and sustain existing products.
  • Encourage and foster an environment for new ideas and innovation.
  • May direct or lead other Engineers or Technicians
  • Other activities as needed.
