About The Position

Take your next career step at Instrument Transformer Equipment Corporation with a US based team that is developing responsive solutions for an evolving grid. ITEC is a leader in engineering, designing, and manufacturing critical componentry for electrical substations and the broader grid. Our pride lies in our long-standing partnership with utilities companies, the reliability of our products, and the technical and hands-on capabilities of our team. The Design Engineer is responsible for the end to end engineering of SSVTs and instrument transformers, including concept development, detailed design, prototyping, testing, and support through production. This role contributes directly to product innovation, quality improvement, and the successful execution of customer and project requirements. The ideal candidate combines strong electrical engineering fundamentals with practical design experience and a hands-on approach to problem solving in a manufacturing environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • 2–7 years of engineering experience in power products, transformers, switchgear, or related electrical equipment.
  • Knowledge of electromagnetic design principles: magnetic circuits, saturation, accuracy classes, and error curves.
  • Understanding of high voltage insulation systems (oil and dry type).
  • Ability to interpret electrical schematics, standards, and test reports.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate across teams.
  • Detail oriented, organized, and capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with instrument transformers is a strong asset.

Responsibilities

  • Design and engineer SSVTs and instrument transformers (CTs, VTs/PTs, and specialty sensors) according to applicable standards such as IEEE, IEC and CSA.
  • Develop electromagnetic, thermal, and dielectric designs using analytical calculations and simulation tools.
  • Participate in prototype builds and validation testing.
  • Perform engineering calculations for accuracy classes, burdens, thermal limits, insulation coordination, and short circuit performance.
  • Ensure designs comply with international standards and certification requirements.
  • Prepare engineering documentation, test plans, and technical reports.
  • Work closely with Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, and Sales to ensure robust design transfer and manufacturability.
  • Support customer-specific projects, including custom transformer designs and special applications.
  • Provide technical guidance for production issues or field applications.
  • Identify opportunities to improve product reliability, cost, manufacturability, and performance.
  • Contribute to R&D initiatives, new materials evaluation, and technology upgrades.
  • Support standardization of components, processes, and design templates.
