About The Position

The Design Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing facility systems for semiconductor projects, including Air Abatement Systems, Cleanrooms, Fire Protection, FMCS / I&C, Mechanical, and PX & Structural Systems. This role involves creating detailed schematics, layouts, schedules, and calculations, ensuring compliance with industry standards and safety regulations, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to support project execution. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, proficiency in relevant design software, and the ability to oversee projects from concept to completion.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil/Structural Engineering, or a related field.
  • 2–5+ years of experience in design engineering (experience in semiconductor, industrial, commercial, or infrastructure projects is highly desirable).
  • Experience in construction coordination, facility systems design, or industrial applications is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, fire protection, structural, cleanroom, and control systems.
  • Familiarity with IMC, IBC, NEC, NFPA, IEEE, IEC, SMACNA, and other relevant industry codes and standards.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, BIM workflows, or similar design programs.
  • Experience with system calculations (flow, load, pressure, safety, etc.) and facility requirements studies.
  • Strong understanding of project lifecycle including design, procurement, construction, and commissioning.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and schematics.
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills for complex systems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for collaboration with clients, contractors, and internal teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects while meeting deadlines.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, required.
  • Ability to communicate in Mandarin, preferred.
  • Ability to communicate in Spanish, preferred.
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and be willing to travel to project sites as required.
  • May require occasional work outside standard business hours to meet project deadlines.
  • This position requires the ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs. for transporting documents, equipment, or small materials as needed. The role involves extended periods of sitting while working at a computer, as well as occasional standing and walking.
  • The position is based at the main office and construction job site (trailer office). Even though the exposure of hazardous work conditions would be minimal, the employee may be required to visit the work area of the jobsite and thus be exposed to some typical work hazards that may be present on a construction site, such as dust, moving machinery, weather, caustic chemicals, noise etc. UIS would provide the required safety protection to ensure the safety of UIS employees and comply with all OSHA standards.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with HVAC systems, HVAC equipment servicing, HVAC installation management, or construction background.
  • Experience with PLCs, SCADA, and automation systems.
  • Familiarity with BIM workflows and coordination

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop facility systems such as air abatement, cleanroom HVAC, fire protection, piping, structural layouts, FMCS/I&C, and process utilities based on project requirements.
  • Prepare and review schematics, layouts, equipment schedules, flow diagrams, piping & instrumentation diagrams (P&ID), panel schedules, cable tray layouts, and bills of materials (BOM).
  • Conduct system calculations such as load, flow rate, pressure drop, short-circuit analysis, and safety checks to ensure system reliability and efficiency.
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable codes, standards, and regulations (e.g., IMC, IBC, SMACNA, NEC, NFPA, IEEE, IEC).
  • Coordinate with architects, electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, structural engineers, and contractors to ensure seamless project integration.
  • Perform site visits, inspections, and evaluations to support design accuracy and troubleshoot installation issues.
  • Utilize AutoCAD, Revit, and other relevant design software to create and modify drawings.
