We are looking to fill a position for a Design Engineer in the Installation Design Department. This full-time role requires strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills. The engineer will be responsible for creating 3D models, 2D drawings, and bills of materials (BOMs) that guide production in installing our equipment on assorted vehicles. This role involves ensuring designs are practical, and delivering all relevant information to production teams to ensure successful builds and high customer satisfaction.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, or a related field
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks or Onshape (or equivalent 3D CAD software); familiarity with 2D drafting tools (e.g., DraftSight).

Nice To Haves

  • Strong understanding of mechanical system design, problem-solving, and blueprint interpretation.
  • Prior experience (internship or professional) with mobile or custom industrial equipment integration.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and take initiative in fast-paced environments.
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles and their application in product design.
  • Experience with technical documentation, root cause analysis, and design validation techniques.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products and technical documentation practices
  • Experience with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems and Material Requirements Planning (MRP) software
  • Understanding of welding techniques, bolted joint design, and structural mounting best practices.
  • Basic proficiency in load case analysis, FEA, and mechanical stress evaluation for welded assemblies.
  • Awareness of industry best practices and trends in utility equipment design and vehicle integration.
  • Ability to lift up to 10 pounds occasionally and smaller items (1-2 pounds) frequently

Responsibilities

  • Create accurate and detailed 3D models based on customer specifications, design requirements, and applicable safety standards.
  • Design mechanical systems that interface heavy equipment with a range of vehicle chassis.
  • Develop precise production drawings that eliminate ambiguity and reduce delays during fabrication and assembly.
  • Collaborate with internal and external cross-functional teams to assess feasibility, resolve design issues, and ensure ANSI and other applicable standards are met.
  • Analyze vehicle and equipment configurations to determine mounting parameters, load distribution, and stability compliance.
  • Generate load charts that conform to ANSI standards based on tested and calculated stability data.
  • Apply engineering principles to improve existing systems and develop innovative solutions for mounting and integration challenges.
  • Independently design and revise parts and assemblies with minimal supervision.
  • Complete Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) and manage documentation to ensure design integrity and revision control.
  • Prepare technical specifications to support new product development and streamline manufacturing processes.
  • Review and update technical documentation for clarity, accuracy, and compliance.
  • Support manufacturing, service, quality, and distribution teams by resolving design-related issues and implementing effective solutions.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
