About The Position

Your Work Shapes the World at Caterpillar Inc. When you join Caterpillar, you're joining a global team who cares not just about the work we do – but also about each other. We are the makers, problem solvers, and future world builders who are creating stronger, more sustainable communities. We don't just talk about progress and innovation here – we make it happen, with our customers, where we work and live. Together, we are building a better world, so we can all enjoy living in it. Job Summary: Join our Construction Ground Engaging Tools (GET) Engineering Team as a Design Engineer and gain hands‑on experience designing and analyzing GET wear components. In this role, you’ll work closely with experienced engineers, top‑tier manufacturers, and suppliers while supporting New Product Introductions (NPI), collaborating on New Supplier Introductions, and contributing to Continuous Product Improvements (CPI). This opportunity allows you to build strong technical skills, see how designs move from concept to production, and help maintain the high quality and performance standards our products are known for.

  • Technical Excellence: Proficiency in creating robust designs for wear components to ensure they meet design requirements.
  • Working knowledge in any Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software to simulate and analyze structural behavior under various load conditions, optimizing designs for durability and efficiency
  • Familiarity with ANSYS, Abaqus, or Creo Simulate for structural and thermal analysis.
  • Ability to interpret and apply engineering standards, GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing), and tolerance stack-ups.
  • Knowledge with DFMEA (Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) to identify and mitigate potential design risks.
  • Product Design - MFG: Proficient in working with suppliers to enhance design for manufacturability (DFM).
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams, including procurement, production, and quality assurance, to align design objectives with manufacturing capabilities.
  • Understanding of Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) principles to reduce cost and complexity.
  • Proficient in utilizing Teamcenter or Windchill for product lifecycle management (PLM) tasks.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes such as welding, casting, machining, and forming
  • Product Design and Development: Develop creative and effective design solutions that meet the functional requirements of the product.
  • Conduct a thorough analysis and selection of materials to ensure product durability, performance, and cost-effectiveness, considering factors like strength, weight, and environmental impact
  • Proficiency in Creo (Pro/ENGINEER) modeling and detailed design.
  • Ability to create and manage BOMs (Bill of Materials) and engineering change notices.
  • Conduct design reviews and validation testing to ensure product performance and compliance with specifications.
  • Effective Communication: Strong communication skills and great interpersonal skills to interact with other engineering teams, the platform team, purchasing teams, and manufacturing teams.
  • Ability to clearly document and present design concepts, technical data, and project updates.
