Design Engineer is a collaborative team member responsible for solving complex consumer problems by designing and developing innovative, cost-effective product solutions that meet both customer requirements and internal standards. This role requires exceptional CAD design skills paired with strong hands-on abilities to enable rapid prototyping and the design and manufacturing of custom test equipment. Candidates for this role need to have a solid understanding of manufacturing processes, strong engineering instincts, and a relentless dedication to tackling difficult problems. The ideal candidate brings high curiosity, adaptability to learning new technologies and methods, excellent communication skills for interacting with internal and external stakeholders, and the ability to thrive in ambiguity while making timely decisions with incomplete information. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field
  • Minimum of 2+ years of relevant design engineering experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of engineering principles
  • Ability to produce complex 3D models and detailed drawings
  • High-level proficiency in SolidWorks
  • Demonstrated experience releasing new designs into production
  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes and practices (including machining, injection molding, & metal forming)
  • Ability to perform engineering calculations & FEA analysis
  • Evidence of well-structured, quality design files combined with a sharp focus on cost efficiency and budget management
  • Strong problem-solving skills (individual and team-based)
  • Excellent organizational, collaboration, and communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
  • Flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced environment

Responsibilities

  • Concept Development: Observe customer pain points to translate into actionable requirements to drive solutions to the right problems. Collaborate and drive brainstorming and requirement organization to generate innovative design concepts to solve customer problems.
  • Design Product Concepts: Develop design concepts into product solutions using best-in-class design and modeling practices while understanding manufacturing capabilities. Collaborate cross functionally with Industrial design, project management, consumer insights, and suppliers to optimize cost, manufacturability, and speed to market.
  • Prototype & Test: Prototype design concepts using rapid prototyping and other manufacturing methods. Develop standardized and custom test methods. Design and build test equipment to evaluate both internal design concepts and benchmark competitive offerings.
  • Deliver Finalized Design for Production: Make production ready CAD (3D & 2D). Lead: DFMEA, FEA, DFM, Design Reviews, Print Reviews, Design for Sustainability.
  • Cross Functional Collaboration: Participate and lead DFMEA, Process Improvement, VOC, After Action Reviews, Product Road Mapping, Stage Gate Reviews, etc.
  • Mentorship: Help and mentor interns and entry level engineers in their development as professionals
