Design Engineer
About The Position
Our client, who is a growing engineering-focused organization in the Albany, NY area is seeking a Design Engineer to join its research and development team. This role is well suited for a hands-on mechanical engineer who enjoys product development, testing, and collaboration across engineering, manufacturing, and customer-facing teams. Position Overview: The Design Engineer will be responsible for the design, testing, and validation of new and existing products. This individual will play a key role in translating customer and regulatory requirements into reliable, manufacturable designs while supporting continuous improvement initiatives and new product development.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
- 3–5+ years of relevant engineering experience
- Proficiency in 3D CAD software; experience with Creo strongly preferred
- Familiarity with laboratory testing equipment and test methodologies
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills
- Customer-focused mindset with strong communication abilities
- High attention to detail and documentation accuracy
- Willingness and ability to travel as required
Responsibilities
- Create and execute design verification and validation plans
- Develop and document test procedures, fixtures, lab setups, and test reports
- Perform engineering analysis to solve complex design and performance challenges
- Conduct and support design failure mode and effects analysis (DFMEA)
- Build expertise in applicable industry codes, standards, and compliance requirements
- Communicate effectively with customers to understand needs and provide technical support
- Support new product development from concept through production
- Create detailed 3D models, part drawings, and bills of materials using CAD software
- Assist manufacturing with production of first-article builds and design-for-manufacturing considerations
- Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, manufacturing, and project teams
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and other projects as assigned
- Travel to customer locations as needed
