The Large Power System Division currently has a job opening for an Electrical Design Engineer located at our Griffin, Georgia facility. In this role, you will participate/lead the design and development effort for generator set control systems used on reciprocating engines. This role will focus on diesel and gas-powered generator sets which operate in Electric Power, Oil & Gas and Marine market segments. Generator size range is 300KW to 6000KW.

Requirements

  • Analytical Thinking: Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems. conclusions.
  • Effective Communications: Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.
  • Technical Excellence: Knowledge of ProE, CAD Engineering Tools or Custom Computer Programs and their various application methods; ability to develop and provide solutions to significant technical challenges. The use of these tools to develop controls and power systems on generator sets.
  • Team Management: Knowledge of effective team building techniques; ability to form and manage effective teams.
  • Design for Manufacturability (DFM): Knowledge of design for manufacturability guidelines, methodologies, and use cases; ability to use this knowledge to optimize product designs and manufacturing operations.
  • Engineering - MFG: Knowledge of processes, techniques and methods of engineering in a manufacturing environment; ability to design and implement materials, structures, machines, devices, systems and processes that safely realize a desired objective or invention.
  • Product Testing: Knowledge of product testing approaches, techniques and tools; ability to design, plan and execute testing strategies and tactics to ensure product quality at all stages of manufacturing.
  • Troubleshooting Technical Problems: Knowledge of troubleshooting approaches, tools and techniques; ability to anticipate, detect and resolve technical problems in a manufacturing or product development environment.
  • Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering and/or Electrical Engineering Technology or similar is preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with high speed and medium speed reciprocating engine gensets
  • Experience as a team lead and a desire to grow leadership capabilities
  • Knowledge of IEEE, NEMA, UL and IEC standards for testing and rating electrical machines
  • Demonstrated quality focus and experience with quality systems
  • Ability to manage and calculate product cost

Responsibilities

  • Participate/lead the project management activities for assigned generator product development projects
  • Maintain responsibility for all aspects of control system engineering development and maintenance
  • Design optimal control system solutions to meet marketing, customer, product and project objectives
  • Work closely with the purchasing team to identify and develop strategic supply chain partners for control system components and finished goods
  • Manage project scope, schedule and cost
  • Establish and maintain compliance within the project budget/ timelines for controls
  • Keep abreast of new technology and competitive products associated with AC synchronous generators and controls
  • Participate/lead new materials selection and development efforts to provide state-of-the-art technological advantages
  • Participate and lead product cost reduction efforts
  • Demonstrate initiative and a sense of urgency relative to customer requirements and creative problem solving across organizational boundaries
  • Maintain utmost discretion in the management of confidential and privileged information
  • Work with other team members to research and analyze customer specifications to create design proposals to meet performance, customer and manufacturing requirements
