Job Summary The Design Engineer partners with Sales, Product Line Management, Customers, and Plant Production to translate customer requirements into manufacturable designs for data communications enclosures, server racks, cabinets, and cable management products. This role is responsible for developing 3D models on short design cycles for customer review and approval, creating bills of material (BOMs) and 2D manufacturing drawings, and supporting cross-reference designs. Designs must balance customer requirements, cost targets, and in-house manufacturing capabilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Minimum of 2 years of sheet metal design experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • 5+ years of experience using Autodesk Inventor.
  • Experience designing for manufacturability (DFM) and working closely with production teams.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, custom manufacturing environment with short design cycle times.
  • Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

  • Create top-level 3D submittal models and assemblies in Autodesk Inventor for custom product offerings and customer approval.
  • Develop accurate bills of material (BOMs) and 2D manufacturing drawings, with and without 3D CAD models.
  • Provide CNC programming support by supplying accurate DXF files derived from CAD models (programming team generates final DXFs based on provided files).
  • Create, maintain, and process Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) based on customer and manufacturing feedback.
  • Drive continuous improvement by researching and incorporating design enhancements and new product solutions.
  • Design products using sheet metal fabrication processes and equipment available within the facility.
  • Ensure designs meet functional requirements while delivering cost-effective, manufacturable solutions.
  • Support cost estimating activities in collaboration with the Estimating team.
  • Develop manufacturing process routings aligned with in-house production capabilities and workflows.
