About The Position

The Design Engineering position is crucial to the support of Regal Rexnord’s Commercial Gearing operations and cost reduction efforts. The Design Engineer is responsible for executing design engineering initiatives to support existing product lines, as well as identifying and executing projects to improve component costs. Assignments will involve aspects of design engineering, material cost out (MCO) activities, 80/20 business philosophy, project management, vendor collaboration, and continuous improvement. This position is a hybrid role based out of Regal Rexnord’s Union Grove, Wisconsin facility and will report directly to a Commercial Gearing Engineering Manager. Less than 10% travel is required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university.
  • 5+ years’ relevant hands-on experience in a mechanical engineering design position in a production manufacturing environment with the ability to demonstrate strong mechanical aptitude and knowledge of industrial equipment or products.
  • Capable of working independently as well as in a cross-functional team environment with remote global resources, to include effective communication through diverse channels (verbal, written, video, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of SolidWorks and GD&T principles.
  • Prior experience working in a fast-paced, metric-driven environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks with a sense of urgency and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Willing and able to travel up to 10% to production facilities to observe current methods or implement changes.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of industrial gearboxes and the design or manufacturing processes of components such as gears, shafts, bearings, castings, fabrications, forgings, and fasteners.
  • Previous project management experience.
  • Proficient in Oracle and SAP ERP systems, with the ability to leverage these tools for project management and cost analysis.
  • Proficiency in CAD software and familiarity with FEA tools and results.
  • Demonstrated ability to innovate and develop creative solutions to engineering problems.
  • Knowledge and application of lean manufacturing principles and Continuous Improvement tools: 80/20, Value Stream Mapping, 6S, Flow, Standard Work, Visual Management, Gemba, & Problem Solving is required

Responsibilities

  • Improve or optimize component designs considering manufacturability, quality, and cost, with an understanding of required design analysis methods.
  • Review and analyze gear drive component failures, identify root cause and implement corrective actions.
  • When appropriate, create test plans to validate design concepts and material or manufacturing changes, summarizing results and documenting conclusions.
  • Update or maintain engineering documentation including drawings, bills of materials, and technical standards.
  • Regularly go to Gemba at assigned production facility and be a resource for technical support, troubleshooting, resolving assembly issues, and implementing design improvements.
  • Apply engineering knowledge to support the shipment goals of the production operation teams through review and disposition of manufactured part variances and purchased part substitutions.
  • Work closely with Manufacturing Engineering regarding product design and manufacturing methods including evaluation of workflow, assembly, and all associated costs.
  • Travel as needed to other facilities to observe current methods, implement changes, and participate in problem-solving or kaizen events.
  • Manage VAVE projects through a gated process, collaborating with cross-functional team members to optimize products and achieve savings goals (VAVE/MCO/VCP).
  • Gather component cost data, perform cost analysis and identify cost reduction opportunities.
  • Provide technical support to the Sourcing and Quality teams with vendor pre-approval, PPAP Charter creation, drawing / specification / deviation review, and PPAP part approvals.
