About The Position

Under the direction of the Project Design Engineering Manager, to participate in product design, carry out design checks on orders, and provide support to Drafting and Analysis on design and components. Assist Project Managers and Application Engineers with evaluating and responding to technical specifications. Assists in finding engineering solutions to satisfy customer’s requests. Occasionally assist Application Engineers, Project Engineers, and Service Engineers with customers.

Requirements

  • Minimum one-year experience in related field.
  • Experienced in the application of Microsoft Software (MS Word, MS Excel and MS Power Point), an up-to-date CAD-System and creation of technical drawings are desirable.
  • Should be able to read technical drawings and understand geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
  • Should have the people skills to work in a diverse team environment.
  • Four-year degree in Mechanical Engineering or four-year Bachelor degree in a related field.

Nice To Haves

  • Pump design experience or other similar rotating equipment experience is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Learns and uses customized computer aided design tools.
  • Review all orders and verify the technical aspects of the order have clearly been defined to ensure a smooth transition in the hand over process from the application engineer to the project manager
  • Technical support for Application Engineers on outside equipment specifications.
  • Helps create technical documentation for purchased equipment and deals with outside vendors to gather technical information on new products.
  • Carries out design checks and works with Project Managers on component selection and design for general assemblies.
  • Designs sub-bases, guards and sole plates for product installations.
  • Helps to coordinate work for contracted CAD Operators with help of the scheduler / coordinator.
  • Helps clarify technical details for drafter/modelers when technical information is needed.
  • Create technical formula embedded spreadsheets for design team use.
  • Carries out stress and structural analysis using a commercial Finite Element Software Package under the direction of the Project Engineering Manager.
  • Designs special tooling for pumps as required and works with purchasing / vendors to ensure the tools are built to specifications and standards established by GIW.
  • Works with manufacturing and outsourcing vendors concerning questions and problems encountered with drawings.
  • Supports field sales and evaluates options for customer through design layouts.
  • Create standard General Arrangements to help expedite order processing and give GIW an advantage over the competition thru price and availability.
  • Participates with a team representing various GIW skills to design and replace existing competitor pumps with minimum modification to customers’ existing equipment.
  • Assists Project Managers, Application Engineers, and Purchasing Manager in technical negotiations with customers and vendors.
  • Updates and changes work instructions as work procedures change.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
  • Provides direction and information to drafter/modelers as required.
