About The Position

Under general direction, the Deputy of Agricultural and Standards Services evaluates, directs, and coordinates the activities of one or more sections within the Agriculture/Weights and Measures Department and staff engaged in the enforcement of State and Federal laws relating to agricultural and weights and measures within the County and may be called upon to assist in the activities of other sections as needed.

Requirements

  • The equivalent of two (2) years of full-time experience in the class of Agricultural and Standards Investigator III in the Alameda County classified service.
  • Possession of a bachelor’s degree, or appropriate four (4) year degree which qualifies the applicant to obtain the required State licenses.
  • The equivalent of four (4) years full-time experience in the enforcement of agricultural laws, in agricultural pest control, or in the production, marketing, or processing of agricultural commodities; or experience in inspection, maintenance, repair, or installation of measuring instruments or equipment.
  • This experience must have been at a level comparable to an equivalent class of an Alameda County Agricultural and Standards Investigator III.
  • One (1) of the required four (4) years of experience must include supervising responsibility.
  • Possession of a valid state license as a County Deputy Agricultural Commissioner or County Deputy Sealer of Weights and Measures issued by the California Department of Food and Agriculture.
  • Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator's license.

  • Interpret and apply Federal, State, and County laws, regulations, and ordinances pertaining to Agriculture and Weights and Measures.
  • Analyze situations, consider alternatives, make independent decisions, and take appropriate actions.
  • Utilize social media if required.
