About The Position

Manages the day-to-day operations of the communications department. Manages and oversees the implementation of the Communications strategy. Establish positive relationships between the company and its various publics through creative use of news media and other public relations vehicles. Create opportunities to promote a positive image of the company and produce a climate in which the company can operate most effectively. Oversees budget management and other specified responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from 4-year college or university in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Advertising, Marketing or related field; no substitutions.
  • An additional seven (7) years of experience in a related field.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Photoshop skills preferred, skills in public relations distribution software (such as Meltwater, Vocus, etc.) preferred, Blackboard notification services preferred.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license with a driving history verified through a motor vehicle report that meets requirements for Cherokee Nation underwriting rating.
  • The employee must not be and will not be under sanction by the United States Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Inspector General (OIG) or by the General Services Administration (GSA) or listed on the OIG's Cumulative Sanction Report, or the GSA's List of Excluded Providers, or listed on the OIG's List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE).
  • Proficient and up to date with current social media skills and tactics, smartphone photo and video editing skills preferred.
  • Strong writing and public speaking skills and knowledge of crisis communication procedures.
  • Knowledge of AP Style a must.
