About The Position

Responsible for assisting the District Attorney in managing the daily operations of the District Attorney’s Office, handling the highest-level cases, supervising attorney’s and support staff, monitoring the flow of paperwork. Supervises staff to include prioritizing and assigning work, handling personnel issues: ensuring staff are trained; providing guidance to attorneys; interpreting laws and regulations, preparing and reviewing legal documents; interpreting and enforcing policies; and making recommendations on hiring, termination and disciplinary actions; coordinates activities with other offices, departments and agencies and performs public relations activities; reviews and approves incoming and outgoing work such as pleas and diversions; performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

Requirements

  • All positions require that the applicant be a resident of Wyandotte county or willing to relocate within (12) months from the date of hire.
  • As a condition of employment all employees must pass a post offer physical examination and drug screen.
  • Submit proof of identity and employment eligibility.
  • Graduation from an accredited school of law, Juris Doctorate
  • Eight years of progressively responsible supervisory, criminal, civil, juvenile offender, and/or child in need of care legal practice, or related work experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
  • License to practice law in the State of Kansas required.
  • Good communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisors, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
  • Membership in the Kansas State Bar
  • Knowledge of Federal, State and local laws and regulations, Constitutional and/or Criminal law; court procedures and etiquette as well as sentencing guidelines.
