The Deputy Director manages the day-to-day operations of the site, directly supervising the management staff. This position manages all capital improvement requests and projects and oversee the repair and maintenance of all Tryon Palace structures and properties. This position provides oversight of the state operations, planning and development activities, and liaison responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an appropriately accredited institution AND three (3) years of program experience related to the area of assignment, including one year of supervisory program experience; OR an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Must be able to work Monday – Friday 8AM – 5 PM with an hour for lunch.
  • Must be able to work some evenings & weekends as needed.
  • Ability to walk and stand for extended periods of time with or without accommodation.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license issued from within the United States or be able to obtain one within 90 days of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the management team by organizing and directing centralized support services of finance management, institutional research, management of facilities and grounds, retail operations, security and safety, and interpretation/programming and education.
  • Manage Tryon Palace private and state budgets and grants.
  • Serve as liaison with the Tryon Palace Commission and Tryon Palace Foundation.
  • Serve as institutional liaison with local, city and county agencies.
  • Prepare progress reports, budget analysis, and major project reports as required to present to stakeholders.
  • Work with Executive Director on long-range planning.
