About The Position

The NYC Department of Design and Construction, Division of Infrastructure is currently seeking a Deputy Director for the Coastal Resiliency – Construction – Section 1. The successful candidate will be responsible for an annual capital program comprised of multiple construction projects; manage professional and technical construction staff responsible for overseeing capital-funded sewer, water main, roadway, climate resiliency, public space improvement projects; review construction plans; coordinate with sponsor agencies, private utility firms and stakeholders to resolve any operational field problems involving construction; ensure contract compliance and payment of contractors; schedule and perform final inspections and participate in various agency taskforces such as those related to new initiatives in change orders, project record keeping, quality assurance, etc. Moreover, the Deputy Director will act as the representative of the unit in meetings with utility companies, and city, state, and federal agencies when needed; train staff in executing the unit's responsibilities; participate in the recruitment efforts of the agency; and support the Assistant Commissioner and Director with the team's objectives as required.

Requirements

  • A valid New York State License as a Professional Engineer.
  • Six (6) years of full-time satisfactory experience in chemical engineering, civil engineering, electrical engineering, environmental engineering, mechanical engineering, or plan examining work, at least two (2) years of which must have been in an executive, managerial, or administrative capacity.
  • Only candidates who are permanent in the Administrative Engineer title or those who are reachable on the DDC promotional list (exam #1506), or the open-competitive list (exam #1122) may apply.
  • Authorization to work in the United States is required for this position.
