LAUSD is the second largest school district in the nation with an enrollment of nearly 575,000 students. We serve an area totaling 710 square miles, with over 1,190 schools and educational centers, and we employ over 74,000 individuals, making us one of the largest employers in our city. The Project Execution Branch of the Facilities Services Division is responsible for the construction of new schools and repair and modernization of existing schools as part of a multi-year bond funded capital improvement program. The branch is dedicated to ensuring that existing campuses are modernized and repaired in support of the education and safety of our students and staff utilizing cost efficient and sustainable materials. The Deputy Director of Facilities Project Execution assists in the management of the Project Execution Branch in planning, budgeting, scheduling, funding applications, project cost controls, project reporting, and interdepartmental and interagency coordination of all new construction and existing facility modernization activities. The ideal candidate will be a highly skilled professional in bond program implementation, project financing, and financial forecasting, with the ability to support executive leadership in delivering complex capital programs. They will be a collaborative leader who thrives in a team-oriented environment and can effectively translate organizational goals into actionable plans and results. They will promote accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement by mentoring staff and strengthening cross-functional coordination. The ideal candidate will build strong relationships across departments and with external stakeholders, demonstrating sound judgment and a proactive, solutions-oriented approach to facilities and construction challenges. With a proven record supporting large-scale project delivery, the candidate will be knowledgeable in modern practices of facilities administration, including educational facility planning, school utilization, and architectural and engineering processes. They will understand the requirements for successfully executing construction and modernization projects in compliance with design standards and regulations. Additionally, the ideal candidate will be fiscally responsible and detail-oriented, with experience in budget oversight, cost control, and financial reporting. They will be an effective communicator and negotiator, with public sector or public project experience and a strong background in construction or program management. The successful candidate will demonstrate integrity, dependability, and high ethical standards while supporting leadership in achieving capital program goals.
