About The Position

The Deputy Director of Cybersecurity serves as the second-in-command to the Director of Cybersecurity at Sundt. This role provides day-to-day operational leadership across the cybersecurity program while ensuring strategic initiatives are executed effectively and consistently. The Deputy Director oversees core security functions including threat detection, incident response, vulnerability management, identity security, and governance, while maintaining strong alignment with IT, risk, compliance, and business leaders. When delegated, this role acts with the full authority of the Director to ensure continuity, accountability, and operational discipline across the enterprise security program.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in information security, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Deep expertise in enterprise cybersecurity operations, including threat detection, incident response, vulnerability management, and cloud security.
  • Demonstrated experience leading enterprise security operations and governance programs.
  • Demonstrated judgment, discipline, and calm leadership in high-pressure situations.
  • Minimum of ten years of progressive experience in cybersecurity, including at least five years in leadership roles.
  • Proven ability to lead complex security initiatives across technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong executive communication skills with the ability to clearly articulate risk, impact, and recommendations.
  • Strong understanding of Microsoft 365 security tooling, SentinelOne, Tenable, SIEM technologies, and data protection platforms.

Nice To Haves

  • Industry certifications such as CISSP, CISM, CCSP, or equivalent are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Serve as a key liaison between cybersecurity, IT, risk management, compliance, legal, and business units. Drive alignment between security requirements and business objectives, balancing protection, usability, and delivery.
  • Governance, Compliance, and Assurance: Guide cybersecurity governance and compliance initiatives, including CMMC readiness, audit preparation, control testing, and evidence collection. Ensure policies, standards, and procedures are consistently applied and understood across the organization.
  • Leadership and Program Execution: Provide operational leadership across cybersecurity engineering, security operations, threat detection, vulnerability management, identity security, and incident response. Translate strategic direction into executable plans, ensuring the security program operates reliably, consistently, and in alignment with Sundt's risk posture. Serve as acting Director of Cybersecurity when delegated.
  • Metrics, Reporting, and Continuous Improvement: Oversee development and monitoring of key cybersecurity metrics to measure program effectiveness, risk reduction, and operational performance. Use data-driven insights to continuously improve processes, controls, and capabilities.
  • Security Operations Oversight: Direct advanced detection and response capabilities leveraging tools such as Microsoft Defender, SentinelOne, SIEM platforms, and cloud security technologies. Ensure effective monitoring, investigation, and response to security events and incidents, with clear escalation paths and post-incident reviews.
  • Talent Development and Succession Planning: Mentor senior cybersecurity leaders and engineers. Support professional development, knowledge transfer, and succession planning to ensure long-term strength and stability of the cybersecurity organization.
  • Vulnerability and Risk Management: Oversee vulnerability management programs using platforms such as Tenable One. Ensure vulnerabilities are identified, prioritized, communicated, and remediated in a timely manner. Partner with infrastructure, application, and business teams to reduce risk while maintaining operational efficiency.
