The Deputy Director of DevOps supports the Director of DevOps in leading the strategy, implementation, and operation of Baltimore City's application and infrastructure delivery platforms. This role is responsible for ensuring the reliability, security, and scalability of development and hosting environments that support critical city services. The Deputy Director provides technical leadership, operational oversight, and team management for DevOps engineers and related technical staff. The role ensures that applications built by Baltimore City teams and partner agencies are deployed, maintained, and operated using modern DevOps practices across on-premises infrastructure and Microsoft Azure cloud environments. This position requires a strong balance of technical expertise, operational leadership, and stakeholder engagement, working closely with software developers, architects, cybersecurity teams, and agency leadership to deliver resilient and secure digital services. The successful candidate must be able to translate technical concepts for executive leadership while also engaging deeply with engineering teams and operational staff.

Requirements

  • Have a Bachelor of Science degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a related discipline from an accredited college or university.
  • Have seven years of application programming, systems design, hierarchical/relational database management and/or GIS experience; including three years of supervisory responsibilities as disciplining, evaluating the performance of and recommending the hiring, firing, and promoting of subordinate employees.
  • Have an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Non- supervisory experience or education may not be substituted for the required supervisory experience.
