About The Position

Archuleta County is recruiting for a Deputy Clerk in Motor Vehicle. This is an opportunity to join Archuleta County in an entry level position and begin your career! As a steward of public trust, primarily responsible for all areas of vehicle registration and titling, all marriage licenses, all recordings of legal documents and copies and all county elections. Requirements

  • Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities may be qualifying.
  • Deputy must be able to work at a basic independent level, with little reinforcement.
  • Deputy should also be able to seek basic information in various manuals provided, and have a very low ratio of error.
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.
  • Examples are: Customer Service, General Office and Cashiering related positions.
  • Ability To: Able to complete any balancing procedures required with minimal assistance.
  • Able to answer most all basic customers' questions, be familiar with local general government organization and office locations.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to elicit information from others and provide an explanation, interpretation, or information exchange appropriately in a concise, intelligible and professional manner.
  • Ability to remain open to change and new information; effectively deal with pressure and ambiguity.
  • Ability to work with other government offices and entities, title companies, bank and financial institutions.
  • Ability to work in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Ability to calmly and professionally deal with the general public in person on the phone or written communication.
  • Ability to perform essential functions of the position.
  • Ability to maintain accurate cash records.
  • Ability to operate or learn to operate standard office equipment such as fax and copy machines, telephone systems, adding machines, printers and Windows based PC.
  • Should have working knowledge and understanding of office equipment such as telephone system, copiers, fax machines, calculators, postage machine, basic PC software programs and scanner/printer for the large format plats/maps.
  • Ability to stoop, stand, sit for extended periods, and reach overhead and push, pull or handle objects weighing 25 pounds or less.
  • Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office and setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time, to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard; to travel to other locations using various modes of private and commercial transportation; to verbally communicate to exchange information.
  • Requires the ability to sit and perform administrative and computer work for significant periods of time.
  • Ability to read and understand deeds, legal documents, maps and materials as required for the performance of the job.
  • Requires manual dexterity to operate computers, standard office equipment, plotters, scanners, cameras, data collection tools and equipment, and 4wd vehicles.
  • Requires sufficient hearing and speech ability to communicate verbally in response to inquiries, complaints, and to speak to individuals or groups in an informational or instructional situation.

  • Experience and knowledge of real property statutes, forms and documents and data entry operations preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assists customers in person and over the phone with questions relating to motor vehicle and tax transactions.
  • Performs all motor vehicle licensing functions.
  • Processes motor vehicle registration renewals and temporary permits by mail and in person.
  • Prepare and issue motor vehicle titles, registrations and license plates.
  • Examine documents submitted by customers for motor vehicle titles and registrations.
  • Determine authenticity of documents.
  • Issue appropriate license and registrations.
  • Maintains records accurately and securely.
  • Complete VIN Inspections on motor vehicles and trailers that are coming from out of state.
  • Correctly determine fees, collect and make record of fees.
  • Assist with processing documents received for recording, processing of Titles and Title documents and filing lien's on a motor vehicle.
  • Responsible for making sure Special Mobile Machinery registrations are kept current, issue registration of Special Mobile Machinery (SMM) and prepare monthly reports to show which SMM equipment is delinquent.
  • If deputized, may attest to signatures on documents when deputized thereby affixing the County seal.
  • Assist with evening Check-Out procedures as assigned.
  • Assist with elections in any aspect as may be needed.
  • Performs other related duties as required
