Incumbent serves as Deputy Clerk/Civil for the Sheriff, responsible for providing clerical support to department personnel.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Working knowledge of department policies and procedures and ability to apply such knowledge to a variety of interrelated tasks.
  • Ability to type with speed and accuracy and properly operate a variety of standard office equipment, including computer, printer, telephone, fax machine, and copier.
  • Ability to provide public access to or maintain confidentiality of department information/records according to state requirements.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions, and appropriately respond to constructive criticism.
  • Ability to work alone and with others in a team environment, and maintain appropriate, respectful interrelationships with co-workers.
  • Ability to work on several tasks at the same time, and complete assignments effectively amidst frequent distractions and interruptions.
  • Working knowledge of standard English grammar, spelling and punctuation, and ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with co-workers, other County departments, various law enforcement agencies, and the public, including being sensitive to professional ethics, gender, cultural diversities and disabilities.
  • Ability to comply with all employer/department personnel policies and work rules, including, but not limited to, attendance, safety, drug-free workplace, and personal conduct.

Responsibilities

  • Collects and processes various documents, such as court and civil process documents, including assigning/generating computer numbers, entering on computer, returning to appropriate courts, mailing copies, and preparing/providing receipts for related fees.
  • Answers telephone and greets office visitors, including providing information and assistance, taking messages, or transferring/directing to appropriate individual or department.
  • Performs various clerical duties as assigned/requested, such as typing, faxing reports, scanning documents, locating records on computer, and assisting department personnel.
  • Periodically serves out-of-state civil process documents in the office to persons receiving attempted service notices.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
